Happy Holidays from Delta Rho

As Thanksgiving approaches, it's hard not to think of about the big Thursday night football game, family, turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. This past Saturday, current undergrad brothers were able to face off against Alumni in an epic football game. In the end, the Alumni came out on top, winning the game 19-12. Luckily, the defeat didn't cause any feelings of malice as both groups joined together on Sunday for a Delta Rho tradition: traveling to Edison, NJ, the home of Harold's Deli. Here, brothers and pledges of all ages were able to chow down on humongous deli sandwiches and pancakes while sipping on gigantic milkshakes.

A group of undergraduate brothers and pledge Ari Gutman ventured to New York City on Sunday to attend the Zionists of America gala, a night full of food and inspirational speakers such as Congresswoman Michelle Bachman, Governor Mike Huckabee, and businessman Sheldon Adelson. Hopefully, more brothers will be able to join in next year for such a wonderful event that demonstrates the importance of a Jewish homeland.

While the term will soon be coming to an end, our current pledge program has only picked up momentum. This past Tuesday, the Beta Delta pledge class serenaded the lovely sorority ladies of Drexel with the Backstreet Boys classic "I Want It That Way." Click here to view the video. A big congrats and thank you to brother Raeli Savitt for his extensive and successful pledge program thus far. He truly is raising a great group of future brothers!

In other Jewish news, the first day of Hanukkah will be falling out on Thanksgiving day. Once classes reconvene on Monday, brothers will be able to celebrate the festival of lights together thanks to a 9 foot tall menorah, purchased by our dedicated Yid chair, Ariel Arbely. We hope to see the lighting of this massive candelabra become a brotherhood tradition for years to come. We will also be hosting a Hanukkah celebration with our neighbor AXP, sponsored by the Chabad on campus. In addition, there will be a kosher Hanukkah BBQ the day after, using our brand new kosher grill!

AEPi gives back to the community

Earlier today the brothers of AEPI Delta Rho volunteered with the Jewish Relief Agency, an organization dedicated to delivering care packages to the elderly. Since its founding in 2000, the JRA has attracted all kinds of people (Jewish and non Jewish) with its selfless and heartfelt mission.

Despite having to wake up early in order to attend, there is always a great turnout from active brothers, alumni, and pledges at the venue in Northeast Philadelphia. Volunteers are welcome to partake in complementary bagels, confections, and coffee before packing, loading, and delivering boxes with kosher food and other supplies for senior citizens who are not able to make it outside the house.

Congrats to Michael Rovner, our current community service chair for getting 26 undergraduate brothers, alumni, and pledges out to volunteer on such a beautiful day on November 17th!

An exciting time to be in AEPi

It is currently an exciting and action-packed time for the Delta Rho chapter of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity on Drexel University's campus. This past friday, we held our first formal since last winter. Planned by Past Master Zachary Cohen, the event was held at the Merion, one of New Jersey's prime reception halls. With plenty of friends, food, and a fantastic ice sculpture it was truly a night to remember.

Sunday saw the grand old time of the Delta Rho 18th year gala, celebrating 18 strong years of AEPI's presence on Drexel's campus in the famed Frank Lloyd Wright synagogue in Elkin's Park. In attendance were currently active brothers, the gentleman of our current pledge class (Beta Delta; the largest pledge class in our chapter's history), beloved alumni, and even 4/5 founding fathers of the Delta Rho chapter. This event was chock full of a delicious deli buffet, as well as speeches from various brothers and esteemed guests. A huge thank you to brothers Raeli Savitt and Joshua Glass for planning such an amazing time!

This coming Friday we are happy to announce "Shabbat Across AEPI!" where the brothers will cook and enjoy a lovely shabbat meal on Friday night in our chapter house. Brothers are invited to prepare the meal at the house of our awesome chapter rabbi, Shimon Kay. The dinner, the first of its kind, gives the brothers a chance to really take a break from the stress of college life and celebrate Shabbat with one another. Thank you to brother Ariel Arbely for putting the event together.

Who wouldn't want to be an AEPI brother right now?! Have a fantastic week!

Welcome to our Beta Delta Pledge Class

On Friday October 25th we were proud to induct our newest and largest Pledge Class, the Beta Delta Pledge Class.

Our Pledge Master, Raeli Savitt, is extremely excited to start the Fall Pledge Program at Delta Rho. We have many exciting events already planned with the new pledges.

One of the first events that we have planned next month is the 18th Year Gala Event that is coming up on November 3rd. This is our 18th Year Gala event and we couldn't be more excited for it. Many of our Alumni are attending this event, including our founding master, Marc Leber.
AEPi Delta Rho is Chai, or 18. We are holding an 18th Birthday Celebration to gather brothers from all eras together and take pride in our local history. The celebration will be similar to past landmark celebrations at Delta Rho as well as AEPi Centennial.

We will kick off the day with a large scale community service event at the Jewish Relief Agency (JRA) Warehouse in Northeast Philadelphia. To kick off the day, will be preparing emergency medical packs provided to JRA by the Red Cross. Children will be able to participate, and there will be a section for drawing and writing Hanukkah Cards.

Afterwards there will be a Gala Luncheon at Beth Sholom Congregation, the only synagogue designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as a National Historic Landmark. During the luncheon, we will take some time to reflect on history of the chapter and highlight the importance of the phrase: “commitment for a lifetime.”

After the luncheon, everyone will be invited back to Drexel to tour the chapter house and reconnect.

Delta Rho celebrates 100 years of AEPi

It's been 100 years since AEPi was founded and they had a celebratory convention to commemorate the occasion. The opening reception for the convention occurred at NYU, where was AEPi first started.

To pay tribute to its roots the opening reception, the opening reception took place at New York University, the birthplace of AEPi. In addition to the opening reception, the trip to NYU's campus also included a group photo at the opening reception. Following the photo we were bussed to the boats where we all enjoyed dinner and a tour around Manhattan.

The next days main event was Shabbat dinner on the aircraft carrier the intrepid. On the carrier we enjoyed dinner while exploring all the exhibits. The meal led directly to the Shabbat programming by honoring all of the Alpha Epsilon Pi veterans. Delta Rho was very fortunate to be able to honor one of its own members that was present at the convention, Dmitry Voznyak, who is part of the Naval ROTC program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Saturday began with the Partners and award lunch where we were thrilled when Zachary Cohen was announced as the winner for Master of the Year, a major accomplishment for both Zac and Delta Rho. Later that evening we attended the black tie Centennial Gala. At the gala we had the privilege of hearing from many distinguished alumni and guests including CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

Shortly after the lunch was the gala banquet. Wolf Blitzer, and various other guests, made appearances at the banquet. It was a very proud moment to be an AEPi!

We were also proud that we had an extremely large delegation at convention, consisting of approximately 15 undergraduate brothers, and 10 alumni.
Here's looking forward to another great convention next year!

ASA joins AEPi at JRA

Yesterday (8/4), Alpha Epsilon Pi and Alpha Sigma Alpha went on our monthly trip to JRA.
Early Sunday morning, 10 brothers woke up early to pack boxes of food at JRA. Alpha Epsilon Pi was accompanied by several sisters of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority.

Luckily, it was a beautiful morning out, so AEPi and ASA were able to enjoy some sun while packing the boxes. One of our brothers, Jesse Rosenstein, was able to help one of the delivery cars by making some extra deliveries while the rest of AEPi and ASA continued to pack boxes. After he returned, we loaded our own cars and headed to Spring Garden to make some deliveries of our own.
Another very successful JRA with AEPi and ASA is in the books!

Week 5 Update

This week, AEPi Delta Rho was jam packed with events. Starting on Wednesday July 17th, we had a BBQ with the lovely ladies of Phi Sigma Sigma. The grill was lit at 6 PM, marking the beginning of the evening. The BBQ had plenty of hot dogs and included a variety of lawn games such as ladder ball and corn hole. Over 15 brothers showed up! Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.

We had a very successful brotherhood event at Skyzone on Saturday.  Skyzone is an indoor trampoline park in Oaks, PA. Our brothers had a ton of fun playing dodgeball, dunking on the basketball hoops, and jumping into the foam pits. Although there are some bumps and bruises from the trip, everybody had a great time.

After jumping around on the trampolines at Skyzone, some of the brothers ended up enjoying a brotherhood dinner at Cheeburger Cheeburger. An amazing feat was witnessed there, Alumnus Jared Hurwich, along with Undergraduate Oren Kanel, ate the biggest burger available there, the Pounder.

Other social events this week included a social with Delta Zeta. The theme was “Christmas in July”. It was Brother Social Chairman Jesse Rosenstein's and Social Chair Asher Breverman's first social together and it was executed perfectly!  Snaps to them!

Athletics this week involved horseshoes and volleyball. In volleyball this Friday, we beat Apple Pi in a glorious victory, but fell to the brothers of Sig-Ep. But thankfully on Saturday, we redeemed ourselves with a horseshoes triumph over Sig-Ep.  Good job to everyone who played.

Although this is the Summer quarter, our brothers are certainly doing their best to keep this chapter very active. Thank you to all of the event planners and participants.

You stay classy Delta Rho.

Brotherhood Hike and JRA

Welcome to Delta Rho's new blog!

This week in AEPi, there were two main events that our brothers participated in, our summer hike and of course our monthly JRA.
The hike took place at Evansburg State park on this past Saturday, July 6th. There were 5 brothers that took came out to enjoy the fun in the sun that is the state park. We enjoyed the hike through the park, and eventually lunch and a break near the lake. Some of the brothers did go swimming and luckily they all made it back alive due to a slight miscommunication in the directions (ie: Mark Koh got everybody lost).
Brothers after enjoying a nice dip in the lake

The next day, the brotherhood woke up at 9AM sharp to make it to our community service event at the Jewish Relief Agency (JRA). There were 11 brothers came out to help the cause even though it was a sweltering 93 degrees outside. We all successfully loaded the cars and then made a few deliveries.
After JRA, a few brothers and Alumni went out to the 4th Street Deli. It was a great weekend for AEPi Delta Rho.
